Travel Plan for the Dayara Bugyal Trek:

 

If you are traveling from cities like Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Mumbai, or Gujarat, your journey to the Dayara Bugyal Trek will typically begin in Delhi. Here are your travel options:

Option 01 – By Train:

Book a ticket on the Nanda Devi Express to Dehradun (Train no. 12206). It departs at 11:30 pm from Delhi and arrives in Dehradun at 5:45 am.

Alternatively, you can choose the Dehradun Express (Train no. 12687) departing at 9:10 pm from Delhi, reaching Dehradun at 5:00 am.

Both trains offer overnight journeys, making it convenient for trekkers. Upon arrival in Dehradun, you will be met by our team members.

Option 02 – By Air:

You can fly to Jolly Grant Airport, the nearest airport to Dehradun, which is approximately 27 km from the city center.

Flights from various cities are available to Dehradun. You can book your tickets online.

Taxis are readily available at the airport and cost approximately Rs. 1000 for a one-way journey to Dehradun.

Option 03 – By Bus:

If you prefer to travel by bus, you can take a bus from Delhi’s ISBT Kashmiri Gate to Dehradun.

Plan to reach Dehradun Railway Station between 5:00 am to 6:00 am, where transportation arrangements will be made for your onward journey to the trek’s starting point.

Distance from Major Cities:

  1. Delhi to Dehradun: Approximately 207 km by flight, 302 km by train, and 249 km by bus.
  2. Bangalore to Dehradun: Approximately 1924 km by air and 2371 km by train.
  3. Mumbai to Dehradun: Approximately 1344 km by air and 1724 km by train.
  4. Kolkata to Dehradun: Approximately 1518 km by air and 1694 km by train.

 

ATM Point and Mobile Connectivity in Dayara Bugyal Trek

ATM Point:

There are no banks or ATMs available in Raithal, the base camp for the trek.

The last place to withdraw cash from an ATM is Uttarkashi. If you need cash, it’s advisable to do so in Dehradun before starting the trek.

Mobile Connectivity:

Mobile phone reception is limited during the trek. Only BSNL, Airtel, and Idea networks work in Raithal, and even these networks may have weak signals.

It’s recommended to finish important calls and work before starting the trek.

Signal strength may improve as you move closer to Uttarkashi and Bhatwari.

Schedule Details

DAY 1

Dehradun to Raithal drive: 190 KM in 7 to 8 hours

 

We start our trip from Dehradun railway station at 6:00 am, and move towards Raithal village. It takes around 8 hours to reach Raithal. Raithal village is the base camp for the Dayara Bugyal trek which is 32km from Uttarkashi and it's on the way to Gangotri. We will be passing through Mussoorie, Chamba, and Uttarkashi. There will be an Overnight stay at Raithal in a Homestay or Guest House.

DAY 2

Raithal - Ghuyin – Chilpada: 7 KM trek in 4 to 5 hours

 

After early breakfast, we begin our trek. Raithal to Upper Raithal is a quick hike of simply 1 km which may be effortlessly performed in much less than an hour. It is a perfect campsite to mark the start of the trek with beautiful views of Mt. Shrikanth, Mt. Jaunli & Mt. Draupadi ka Danda.
Moving ahead you’ll witness a stunning forest full of flora and fauna. A 4 km step by step ascending course from Upper Raithal ends in shepherd huts at Ghuyin, an old-fashioned little hamlet instantly out of a mythical world. After a quick rest at Ghuyin, we’ll start moving to Chilpada The path from Ghuyin to Chilpada is easy. Shepherd huts mark the start of Dayara Bugyal. This day trek is going through open land and dense woodland at exceptional locations. You will witness igloo huts a beautiful lake(Gui taal) in Gui, a majestic landscape of Rhododendrons, and a forest covered with Silver oaks & Deodar trees.
Visible peaks from Chilpada base camp will be Mt.Shreekantha, Mt.Gangotri, Mt.Jaunli, and more

DAY 3

Chilpada - Dayara Bugyal - Bakria top - Barnala Tal: 8 KM trek in 6 to 7 hours

 

Wake up at sunrise to witness the spectacular beauty of Dayara Bugyal. Starting from Chillpada to Dayara Bugyal.
Dayara bugyal is one of the most beautiful meadows in India. it’s Vast and pristine offers different landscapes in different seasons, You can go to the summit of Bakaria Top, which is 3 km from Dayara Bugyal. you can explore the region, and then we trek down to Barnala Tal. We set up our camps at Barnala taal.
On this day, we can explore the nearby Gidara Bugyal and walk on the ridge connecting Dayara to Assi Ganga valley. The Banderpunch massif, Mt Gangotri, Draupadi ka Danda, the Black peak can be seen clearly from here. We trek back to our camp.

DAY 4

Baranala Tal to Barsu trek: 5 KM in 2 to 3 hours & drive to Gangnani (25 KM in 1 Hour) or Harsil (55 KM in 2 Hours)

 

We trek downhill back to Barsu and leave in our vehicle for Harsil. We reach by afternoon.  The place has a small army cantonment with a helipad and a Garhwali village. It’s a tiny hamlet away from the crowd and we walk about soaking in the environment. There are several forest trails around the village.
From Barsu we hop into a vehicle and drive to Gangnani, an hours’ drive away which boasts a hot water spring, or the quaint Harsil which has magnificent camp grounds, lying on the route to Gangotri.

DAY 5

Harsil/Gangnani to Dehradun: 225 KM drive in 8 to 9 hours

 

We drive back to Dehradun and reach by early evening. The drive from Harsil or Gangnani (depending on where we stayed the night) to Dehradun takes around 8 to 9 hours to reach. We will be dropping you at Dehradun railway station. Trekkers can further choose to head to Rishikesh for rafting or zipline adventure or relax in a resort in Tapovan.

DAY 6

Ruinsara lake/Thanga to Bali Pass Basecamp (4,600 m) | Trek: 8 km; 7 hrs

 

We start the day early so as to reach our destination before afternoon. We descend down to the shallow river bed, cross over to the opposite bank and walk uphill to another beautiful meadow – Thanga. This meadow also offers awe-inspiring views of the seemingly omnipresent Swargarohini ranges. Kyarkoti valley lies towards the left.
We soon reach Odari. The word ‘Odari’ means a naturally made cave rock. This place has a mythological story associated with it. It is believed that Bali, Hanuman’s brother, had stayed here for one night. Here too we might find evidence of the rare Himalayan brown bear. We camp below Bali Pass along a glacial moraine. This is the one of the best locations for a camp, with the valley below and the Pass behind us. The temperatures at night tend to go to sub-zero degrees. Camping at this altitude is a unique experience which very few treks offer.

DAY 7

Bali Pass Basecamp (4,600 m) to Lower Dhamni (3,200 m) via Bali pass (4,900 m) | Trek: 12 km; 9 hrs

 

This day of crossing Bali Pass too begins very early. We strive to reach the summit by 8am. The trail heads down south, over a ridge. It is a fairly short but steep climb up to the Pass. A lot of glacial scree will be encountered here. Time taken to reach the top ranges from 45 minutes to one and a half hours.
Once we reach the top, we behold the Yamunotri valley for the first time. The view is breath- taking. We see hints of the Saptrishi Kund, which is the origin of river Yamuna. We also get to witness the Banderpunch peaks from the top of the Pass. The summits of Dayara Bugyal, Barua Top and Dokrani Bamak are visible too. We then descend carefully via a connecting ridge and reach the camping grounds of upper Dhamni.

DAY 8

Lower Dhamni to Yamunotri to Janki Chatti (2,400 m)| Trek: 12 km; 6 hrs

 

We descend further to a forested trail. This path leads us to the famous shrine of Yamunotri with the glorious Bandarpunch in its background. One of the temples in the Char Dham circuit, it is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. After paying obeisance to her black marble idol, we make our way down the conventional pilgrim road to Janki Chatti. We stay overnight in one of the guesthouses here. We will get electricity but no phone network.

DAY 9

Drive from Janki Chatti to Dehradun | Drive: 190 km; 8 hrs

 

This is the final day of the trip and we drive back to Dehradun. We can make the most of this jourey by visiting other well-known places that fall on this route such as Kempty waterfalls, Nainbagh and Mussourie.
With equally beautiful memories of an offbeat trek and touristy sight-seeing, we have a cherishable experience.
